Project Introduction
For more than 50 years, Woods has helped shape New Zealand’s landscape. What began in a small Grafton cottage has grown into a 250+ person, multi-office consultancy operating across Auckland, Warkworth, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier and Christchurch.
With recent acquisitions expanding their geospatial and three-waters capabilities, and landmark projects redefining communities nationwide, Woods needed a digital presence that matched their scale, technical depth and national influence.
Challenges
Woods had evolved far beyond its surveying roots into a multidisciplinary consultancy spanning civil engineering, water infrastructure, geospatial, planning and urban design.
As a result, the legacy site no longer reflected the size or complexity of the business. Navigation lacked structure, services overlapped, and the user journey didn’t reflect their sophistication.
The new site needed to:
- Represent a 250+ person, multi-office organisation
- Showcase landmark developments like Milldale, Paerata Rise and the LEAD Alliance
- Clearly distinguish between public infrastructure and private sector services
- Integrate newly acquired geospatial capabilities (DCL and AR & Associates)
- Communicate complex digital products – Woods Map and GeoTrack – in a way non-technical clients could grasp.
Solutions
We designed and developed a modern headless platform, serving content via API to a high-performance Next.js frontend, with media assets delivered through AWS S3 for speed and scalability.
Public and private sector services are now clearly separated, supported by robust filtering that lets users browse by sector or discipline. A geo-located project map highlights nationwide reach at a glance, while an interactive timeline brings 50+ years of history to life. Client testimonials and stronger calls-to-action support credibility and conversion.
New specialist landing pages promote niche capabilities, including Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS). Plus, thanks to sharper messaging and ecosystem integration, Woods Map and GeoTrack are now positioned as core innovations.
An interactive “How can we help you?” tool guides visitors by project type, service or sector. We also delivered a searchable team directory, BambooHR recruitment integration, SEO-optimised content structures, newsletter functionality and subtle micro-interactions to enhance the experience.
Outcome
Simplified navigation across complex services
Elevated brand clarity and positioning
Improved engagement and conversion paths
